Quantum Pulse Gate Attack on IM/DD Optical Key Distribution Exploiting Symbol Shape Distortion

نویسندگان

چکیده

Intensity modulation/direct detection (IM/DD) optical key distribution (OKD) is a method to generate secret whose security against passive eavesdropping guaranteed by the shot noise inherent photodetection process. Here effects of intensity-dependent symbol shape distortion on IM/DD OKD are investigated assuming that eavesdropper can implement temporal mode demultiplexing using e.g. quantum pulse gating technique. The quantitative analysis includes generation based either hard- or soft-decoding detected signal as well impact excess noise. A simple, rule-of-thumb relation between severity and strength required ensure presented.

Provably Secure Quantum Key Distribution By Applying Quantum Gate

The need for Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) is strengthening due to its inalienable principles of quantum mechanics. QKD commences when sender transforms bits into qubits or quantum states by applying photon polarization and sends to the receiver. The qubits are altered when measured in incorrect polarization and cannot be reproduced according to quantum mechanics principles. BB84 protocol is t...

Saturation Attack on Continuous-Variable Quantum Key Distribution System

Introduction Quantum key distribution (QKD) [1] enables two remote parties Alice and Bob to share common secure keys which are unknown to a potential eavesdropper. Unconditional security of QKD is based on the fundamental laws of quantum mechanics, but in reality, securities of practical QKD systems could be jeopardized by physical implementations. In discretevariable (DV) QKD system, due to de...

Optical Pulse Distortion

Pulse distortion and shaping mechanisms play a significant role in optical fiber communication and sensing. In this thesis we shall investigate techniques which alleviate pulse deterioration due to polarization effects, and utilize large chromatic dispersion for system performance enhancement. We first demonstrate a method of mitigating polarization mode dispersion (PMD) in fiber optic communic...

From quantum pulse gate to quantum pulse shaper—engineered frequency conversion in nonlinear optical waveguides

Full control over the spatiotemporal structure of quantum states of light is an important goal in quantum optics, to generate, for instance, singlemode quantum pulses or to encode information on multiple modes, enhancing channel capacities. Quantum light pulses feature an inherent, rich spectral broadband-mode structure. In recent years, exploring the use of integrated optics as well as source ...

Security analysis of quantum key distribution on passive optical networks.

Needs for providing security to end users have brought installation of quantum key distribution (QKD) in one-to-many access networks such as passive optical networks. In the networks, a presence of optical power splitters makes issues for secure key rate more important. However, researches for QKD in access networks have mainly focused on implementation issues rather than protocol development f...
